So... I met this guy the other day, who told me how pumped his (female) best friend was that he was gay, and she finally had a gay friend (although he was bi). Which really got me thinking about my own friends and how amazingly excited they seem about me being gay, sometimes hysterically so.

I don't get it!

Are we the new chihuahuas? Why do so many straight women find having a gay best friend is like the best thing next to owning an iPhone? Am I missing something here? Sure, we have things in common... like perhaps our fascination for other hot men but then... is that really such a unifying factor? I mean, you have girlfriends for that, dont you?

Or is it just a happy feeling to know a guy you don't have to work hard to impress, mostly 'cause we don't care.... or is it just suddenly cool to know someone who's gay?

Gay is Good 3: You've got great Role models...

There are so many great gay/bi men in history to look up to, I'm not saying that there aren't any good straight role models (ahem) but the best ones who did the greatest things were actually gay or at least have been alluded to it by many a credible historians.

Like Alexander the Great, Leonardo Da Vinci, Salvador Dali, Saladin, Aristotle, Joan of Arc, Sappho,J. Edgar Hoover, Michelangelo, Eleanor Roosevelt, Julius Caesar, James Dean, Socrates, Andy Warhol, Oscar Wilde, E M Forster... it's a long list, take your pick.

So, if nothing we can always take heart from the fact that regardless what the homophobes out there say about us, there's a lot that we have contributed to the great human culture pool. So if you're feeling down and out, think about these great gay men and women, I alwways find that a quick fix.

Gay is Good 2: ...I can do it 'cause I'm Gay

Well, the second reason is a really good one, well, if you're out that is!

Straight guys have to behave a certain way, just to keep up the image. They have to work really hard to maintain a macho image, and trust me it gets real old real fast. There are some things that you just can't do as a straight guy, no matter how bad you want to.

Take colours for example, try wearing pink and see what they do to you... Brutal!

Then there's other stuff, you can't have pretty drinks... it's always one of those boring manly drinks like beer and what not. And the clothes, you can never be the guy to start something new, NEVER! There's also wearing your heart on your sleeve, straight guys just don't emote or rather aren't suposed to. You can never watch Julia Roberts' movies and tell others about it (He He). You can't openly say you like Van Gogh or Salvador Dali, or even supposed to know who they are. You can't know every member of any boy-band without raising a few eye-brows. You can never get a bikini wax (Ouch!). You can't listen to Britney or Christina without talking about their asses and rack! Did I mention using more than any 4 grooming products is a strict NO NO. And... And... And well, you definitely CAN NOT sleep with men ;)

I'm not saying that as gay men you should do or want to do these things (except that last one). Heck! I'm not a big fan of Julia Roberts either but these only few of the things that we can get away with without being judged, all you gotta say is... Hey! I'm gay! Care to add a few more?

Gay is Good 1: Love, Sex and the Homo!

Ok, I'm probably not the first person to think of this but just it hit me again just a couple of days ago.

I've been wondering for a long time about in how many ways can being gay be better than being straight and honestly, I found more reasons than I had begun to seek.

Relationships and Sex:

This I believe is the most 'fun'damental of all differences.

I know that most straight guys go through the whole dating and caring phase of a relationship to get to the real stuff, yup, the fucking. Most guys would put out much easily than girls.... aaah, who am I kidding, all guys!

Straight guys stick to being loving and caring and patient to get to the sex, and then, most of the time it just wanes. I'm not trying to generalise but come on, am I right or am I right?

Now when you're dating guys, sex is the first thing that happens. We're all, always horny so its also most likely to happen even before the conversation part of a date. But thats the beauty of it see. NO, No! I'm not being a lech, think about it. Once the sex is over and the guy is still being nice and sweet and caring, and wants to meet you, you know that theres something there. So, when gay guys date, or rather, continue to... we mean it. I'm sure straight guys do too, but you never know.

Anyway, this was one of the reasons why GAY IS GOOD!

Long Distance (Online) Relationships:

You know you think there are things that you'll never do and then, you turn a corner and Bang! you're in a long distance relationship with a guy you've never met in your life. Yeah, I know you're eyebrows are going up right now but pull 'em down... there's more.

I've wondered about it to... all the things that you're thinking of. About the lack of physical intimacy, the distance, the cultural difference and not to mention sexual compatibility; all very important issues in a REAL relationship. And mind you, I'm a very practical person. I don't get swayed by emotions as easy as the next fag (much :D) And I'm not gonna say that when you're in love, nothing else matters; because IT DOES!

Its weird, the last post here said that I'd made up my mind to get into a relationship soon but I didn't think it would happen like this, not in my wildest dreams. And to push the surreal meter even further it happened in true Bollywood fashion, started with a fight and hate and then there we were.

I'll be honest, I don't know what this is... is it really love or my curiosity getting the best of me. Maybe its the latter, but I still do feel strongly for the guy, if it's really true love I feel or something else, is something I'm willing to let time decide. Hopefully, by the end of it no hearts will be broken.Especially, his!

21, Single and not so gay!

Ok, this is how it goes. I'll be turning 21 in another 24 hours and quite frankly I'm not happy about it. You know when I was thinking about my life in the next five years, some five years ago, I was pretty sure that by the time I'm 21 I'd have crossed at least some romantic milestones in my life but so far no such luck. Yes, I sleep around but thats as far as it has ever gotten... I know its too early for me to have settled down but is having a steady boyfriend such a utopian concept? I mean my last attempt at dating went crazy because I was seeing a orientation-confused posessive psychopath!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not the type who's desperate for a 'man' in his life... far from it actually. What I want is a taste of something that I've read, heard and wrote about for a little over half a decade now. ROMANCE! And its not as if I have any dearth of options but its just that maybe, just maybe my own standards and expectations are working against me on this one. I've spent so many years writing impossibly romantic gay stories and chasing a guy who's virtually unattainable that I'm afraid I've made myself quite undateable. My standards are way too high and specific for any guy to be able to fulfil, and what I end up with are quick romps on bed and random chat sessions online.

And whats more confusing is that I'm not even that commitment centric, I might just switch BFs in a couple of months (cause thats just what I'm like) but for once I want to have that torrid affair. Have someone look at me in a googly-eyed weak-in-the-knees sorta way... now really, for a moderately appealing 21 year old gay guy who's easy on the eyes : IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

OK, So I was watching this interview of his on NDTV (i think) and the guy is so confident about of his notions of gay men (or as he likes to call us, homosex) that he spews junk without so much of a sliver of doubt or shame.

His ideas about morality didnt shock me as much as his idea of biology did. When asked about discrimination and the issue of ability of blood donation or rather the lack therof... he freaks out and says, "nahi nahi! yeh toh bilkul hi nahi hona chahiye"

why?

his explanations... well, since research claims that gayness is genetic (which should basically tell him its natural from the get go, but anyway...) he thinks, if the "genes" from a gay man's blood mixes with a str8 man's blood, the gay gene might corrupt the straight gene and make the str8 person gay. I mean, thats how much the guy knows about basic biology. Doesnt he wonder also, that mixing a woman's blood with a man's blood might also bring about the same result.

Im sorry, I can fight against prejudice, I can fight against discrimination, against ignorance... but baba ramdev u win.

...cuz i sure as hell cant fight stupidity! especially when theres so much of it to fight against!

Guess who my latest crush is???

They showed us an old classic movie today to us in college called, "Singin' in the Rain" starring Gene Kelly. I fell in love with the man the moment i laid eyes on him. Gorgeous and charming, Gene Kelly is also a GREAT dancer, and I mean great. If you haven't yet seen this movie I suggest you do, its a musical and a great one at that!

What the fashion industries across the world have realized that many (especially in India) haven't is that the gay-man population is perhaps the biggest demographic they should be catering to. I've been surfing youtube for quite some time and it didn't take me long to discover the fact. Many labels and brands have already realized the importance of the gay demographics and are targeting it exclusively.

I mean... think about it. Most of us do great at our jobs and make good money (talented as we are), we have no or lesser dependent families (more spending power) and we're fashion conscious.

Here's a great example of that trend... a Levi's ad that targets homosexual men. Makes me wanna go out and grab a new pair of 501's myself.

Ok, so I'm jumping up and down on my couch and everyone knows the reason why :)

A ruling like this was completely unexpected coming from any court in India, but as happy as I am I realise that its only a start and a humble one at that. I know we dont seek world domination but acceptance is still out of reach of the common gay man. Tolerance, in a country of fanatics? ... Utopian dream!!!

India's ban on gay sex overturned after 150 years

LAWS dating back to the British Raj that banned gay sex have been overturned in a landmark judgment in India's capital.

The 150-year-old section 377 of India's penal code, introduced when the British ruled the subcontinent, described homosexual intercourse as "carnal intercourse against the order of nature" and imposed a 10-year jail term for offenders.

The Delhi High Court yesterday declared the laws a violation of "fundamental rights" and unconstitutional.

The decision means consensual sex between those over the age of 18 will no longer be punishable, although the court ruled that section 377 should still apply to cases of non-consensual sex and pedophilia.

The court recommended that the Indian Government amend section 377 in accordance with its ruling. However, Indian Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily responded cautiously, saying he would study the judgment before commenting.

The ruling is a big victory for India's gay rights movement, which has staged a long campaign for homosexuality to be decriminalised.

A petition seeking legalisation of homosexuality was first lodged in 2001 by Naz Foundation, an organisation that promotes sexual health. One argument put forward for decriminalising homosexuality was it would help promote the prevention of HIV/AIDS in India.

The petition, which was opposed by the Indian government, was thrown out of the Delhi High Court in 2004 but later reopened after India's Supreme Court directed that the High Court reconsider.

Tripti Tandon, one of the lawyers who brought the petition, said she hoped the Government would not appeal against the decision.

Gay activists said the judgment reaffirmed the liberal and secular nature of India's democracy.

"This is a huge milestone and a very emotional moment for so many of us," said activist Nitin Karani of the Humsafar Trust, which promotes prevention of HIV/AIDS among gay men.

"A lot of gay people have been … too afraid to come forward to get information about their sexual and mental health because of this law. Now they will be less afraid and less inhibited."

I'm sure most of you are already familiar with the concept. For those of you who aren't, let me enlighten you.

What this refers to is this somewhat recent trend of pornstars ie straight pornstars who are more or less disinterested in gay sex, agree to do gay porn just because of the money in it. Apparently, male gay pornstars get paid higher compared to their all-straight counterparts. And it isn't just them, escorts are doing it too. And nope, it doesn't stop there... a lot of 'normal' (non-professional I mean) young men are also getting in it for the cash. Considering, all they have to do is to let some poor desperate fag blow them while they close their eyes and picture Pamela Anderson.

I guess you can draw parallels to it from my first post but lets flip this issue on its back just for the heck of it and ask another question... How many purely gay men would be really willing to go straight for the mulaah? Would you?

My Beautiful Laundrette

Ok, I just saw this movie today and I have got to tell you guys about it. Its definitely going up there with all my other all time favorite gay movies (I'll tell you about the others as we go along)

The story is about an Indian guy, Omar (Gordon Warnecke) who's trying to make it big in South London. Playing Omar's love interest Johnny is Daniel day Lewis. It also features stalwarts like Saeed Jaffery and Roshan Seth.

I can't tell you much about the story without giving the plot away so I won't try to, I'll tell you only this... if you haven't seen it yet, you're missing out on something big. The story is well grounded and relatable, it has an old school feel to it. Provocative at times, at times shocking and at times so outrageously romantic that one cant help but feel the characters.

Beautiful performances by each and every actor, flawless.

Get you hands on this one as soon as possible. Don't miss this one!

Desperate for your loving, baby!

Ok, the title probably sounds romantic but the topic is far from it.

Recently, I was cruising somewhere and found a really hot guy. And to top it off the guy was cruising me right back. What I didn't know, was that at that very moment, I was being watched. And the guy watching me was this chubby, late twenties guy. Now before I could go up to the hot guy this dude walks up to me and starts talking to me.

He wanted to pick me up, so I politely declined. Meanwhile, the hot guy had disappeared so cursing my luck I start walking away but the guy doesn't give up. He starts following me, giving me an unasked-for introduction. Turned out the guy was a local, worked as an accountant and was willing to blow me. Slightly pissed, I still try to veer away from him trying not to sound too rude, reiterating the fact that I wasn't interested. I thought this would work 'cause I saw him kinda backing off.

Ofcourse he didn't, he came back up. Now, he comes up to me and says that he's willing to pay me. At which, I, indignantly stare at him with a what-the-fuck-do-you-think-I-am look. I tell him he's got me wrong and start walking away again at which he says he'll pay whatever I ask. Now, I'm officially pissed and not afraid to show it. I tell him to shove it. He then adopts another approach of pleading. So, now I'm pissed and confused. So, I do the best thing I can think of at the moment. I give him a fake number and smile while asking him to call me in the evening. That satisfied him and gave me enough time to get the hell outta there.

Now, I wish this was an isolated incident but sadly it isn't. It has happened to me at quite a few occasions and in various ways. The lure was not always monetary but similar. Even online!

What I'm wondering is, how desperate a community are we? Sure, I can be all high and mighty about it now but that's 'cause I'm still young and can get pretty much anyone I want. But what if I grow up to be old and ugly will I be just as desperate? And even looking at it from the other perspective, will I ever become so devoid of morals that I actually accept any such advances??? I can't tell (I'm hoping, not!!!)
